About Magha

Magha lies in the first 13°20′ of Leo and is ruled by Ketu. Its deities are the Pitris, the ancestors, and its symbol is a royal throne, the seat passed down through a line. Its star is Regulus, the heart of the lion. The name means “the mighty” or “the great”.

Magha is about lineage, tradition, honour and what we inherit. It gives dignity and a sense of belonging to something larger than oneself. It is classed as fierce (ugra), and it is the nakshatra traditionally honoured in rites for the ancestors. It begins Leo at a gandanta point, where water gives way to fire.

Padas and navamsa

Four quarters of 3°20′

Each pada falls in a navamsa sign, used to read the D9 chart and to colour the nakshatra for anyone whose Moon or ascendant sits there.

Born under Magha

People with the Moon in Magha tend to be dignified, proud of their roots and conscious of tradition. They often rise to positions of authority and carry family responsibilities seriously. They are generous to those under their care, and respect matters to them deeply. Their first dasha is Ketu.
