About Makara

Makara is an earth sign ruled by Saturn and a movable sign: practical, ambitious and determined. Its symbol is the makara, a sea-creature that can live on land and in water, the vehicle of Ganga. Mars is exalted here, at 28°, because energy is most effective when disciplined. Jupiter is debilitated: idealism must become practical.

Capricorn holds three padas of Uttara Ashadha, all of Shravana, the listening ear, and the first half of Dhanishta. It works hard, plans long and respects tradition. Its gift is endurance; its test is warmth.

Nakshatras in Capricorn

Two and a quarter lunar mansions fall in every sign. The filled circles mark the padas, quarters of 3°20′, that lie in Capricorn.

As your Moon sign

Moon in Makara

With the Moon in Makara, feelings are held carefully and expressed through action and responsibility. You are dependable, practical and quietly ambitious. You may not show emotion easily, and you can be hard on yourself; rest and recognition of your own effort help.

As your ascendant

Makara rising

Makara rising gives a serious, capable presence that often grows lighter with age. Saturn rules the chart. You do well in administration, business, engineering, government or anything built over time, and success tends to come through persistence.
