About Jyeshtha

Jyeshtha lies from 16°40′ to 30°00′ Scorpio and is ruled by Mercury. Its deity is Indra, the king of the gods, and its symbol is a round amulet or an umbrella, both signs of protection and rank. Its star is Antares, the red heart of the scorpion. The name means “the eldest” or “the most senior”.

Jyeshtha is a nakshatra of seniority, responsibility and the courage to protect others. It carries the burdens of the eldest. It is classed as sharp (tikshna), suited to work that demands strength and decisiveness. It ends Scorpio at a gandanta point, where water gives way to fire.

Padas and navamsa

Each pada falls in a navamsa sign, used to read the D9 chart and to colour the nakshatra for anyone whose Moon or ascendant sits there.

Born under Jyeshtha

People with the Moon in Jyeshtha tend to be capable, protective and responsible, often taking a senior role early in life. They are resourceful, sharp and private, and they guard those they care for. Learning to share burdens is part of their growth. Their first dasha is Mercury.
