About Karka

Karka is a water sign ruled by the Moon and a movable sign: it feels deeply and acts to protect what it loves. Its symbol is the crab, soft inside a hard shell, moving sideways rather than head-on. Jupiter is exalted here, at 5°, because wisdom is most complete when it is joined to care. Mars is debilitated, its aggression softened into protectiveness.

Cancer holds the last pada of Punarvasu, all of Pushya, considered the most auspicious nakshatra, and Ashlesha. It is the sign of home, mother, nourishment and memory. Its gift is care; its test is not holding on too tightly.

Nakshatras in Cancer

Two and a quarter lunar mansions fall in every sign. The filled circles mark the padas, quarters of 3°20′, that lie in Cancer.

As your Moon sign

Moon in Karka

With the Moon in Karka, its own sign, feelings run deep and memory is long. You are nurturing and intuitive, and you need a secure home and close people to feel well. Moods can follow the Moon's phases; a calm routine and time near water help.

As your ascendant

Karka rising

Karka rising gives a gentle, receptive presence and often a round, expressive face. The Moon rules the chart, so your feelings and the Moon's condition shape your path. You are drawn to caring, teaching, food, property or public work.
